The vintage style of the interior has emerged relatively recently. France became its ancestor, and the main distinguishing feature is the penchant for everything old: furniture, dishes, fabrics and other household items, which are several decades old.
For interior design in vintage style, you can use both expensive antiques and items that you inherited from your grandmothers and have been gathering dust in attics and basements for a long time. Such a vintage, created from “what was”, as well as created using artificially aged items, is considered by designers to be the most correct.
VINTAGE IN THE INTERIOR
Vintage style has a number of distinctive features. It is almost impossible to confuse it with any other, as you can always see in it:
- a huge number of decorative elements, and they will always be old. This can be dishes, including copper that has turned green from time to time, mirrors in antique frames, figurines, old dishes;
- mostly light colors;
- antique furniture;
- symmetry in everything: from the arrangement of furniture to the decoration of the walls;
- many colors, live and artificial.
This interior style is incredibly elegant and feminine, which is why ladies often choose it to create an interior design for a bedroom, living room or kitchen. Designers do not recommend “ennobling” a design apartment or a house in this style: too peculiar vintage can quickly get bored.
VINTAGE IN FINISHING
The development of an apartment interior design project in vintage style requires serious attention to interior decoration. So the ceilings cannot become plasterboard or stretch. Moreover, the presence of cracks and irregularities on a whitewashed or white-painted ceiling will give the interior the necessary charm. Floors should also be natural. Parquet or tile, previously aged, preferably with some scuffs and chips, is suitable for them. The walls are covered with wallpaper. They can be monochromatic, with preference given to white, beige, pale lilac and pink, as well as gray-green and gray-blue tones. And they can be with patterns, and there are practically no restrictions on the choice. Use wallpaper with patterns of butterflies, birds and flowers, Japanese motifs, a large contrasting pattern or with sophisticated graceful patterns.
VINTAGE IN FURNITURE
Real vintage furniture is the “trash” that most people shamelessly send to the landfill. The interior in this style will be complemented by antique chests of drawers, dressing table, chests, dining tables and mirrors in large frames. If there is no old furniture, it is aged artificially: scratches are made on surfaces, traces of scuffs are applied. The originality of the furniture will give carved brass lining. Vintage interior style is inherent in creative and liberated persons. It is able to surprise your guests and create your own cozy world, far from the hustle and bustle of modernity. But if you plan to create an interior in this style, so that your home will be remembered by your friends, please note: vintage does not tolerate inattention and mediocre attitude. You can’t live in vintage. They need to live. And then the harmony of your living space will merge with the harmony of your soul.
