LOFT STYLE AMERICAN PHENOMENON
Extraordinarily large spaces, brick walls and cement floors, the loft interior style is a quintessentially American phenomenon. It arose as a result of the “settlement” of industrial premises and attics of buildings, and therefore includes bright industrial features of the interior. The main feature of the loft style is to perform turnkey apartment design so high quality that if there are ventilation pipes or bricks not hidden in the walls, rough finishes, it felt like a really expensive home.
LOFT IN THE INTERIOR
The loft style is possible only in rooms whose area exceeds not even hundreds, but thousands of square meters. At the same time, the windows should be as large as possible, and the opposite corner should be visible from one corner of the room. A loft-style interior design project can only isolate a bedroom, bathrooms or utility rooms, but nothing more. The unthinkable in size space serves only as a backdrop for the original decoration with a predominance of metal, glass and plastic.
The main features of the loft style include:
- maximum space and light;
- a large number of seats in the premises;
- neighbourhood of old and new (concrete or brick walls here easily coexist with cutting-edge technology, chrome, glass);
If you are planning to create an interior in the loft style, you should keep in mind that such a grandiose project can only be implemented in a historic building, which was originally conceived as non-residential. Brickwork, boards on the floor and huge, floor-to-ceiling windows are the right type of room for a loft style. Original details add special value to the style: ventilation ducts and pipes, rusty floor beams, cast-iron columns and stairs.
The main elements of the style are the original or imitated brickwork. The walls can be concrete or painted with white emulsion paint. In the bathroom or kitchen, monochrome mosaic tiles are appropriate, glass partitions will act as space dividers. There are always a lot of contrasts in interior decoration. Individual elements and colors can contrast: not far from a modern plasma TV, you can put a huge grandmother’s chest, and in the bathroom you can combine exclusive plumbing with an old clawfoot bath. A contrast to the light-colored walls can be one wall in the room, made in an intense tone: thick terracotta, cobalt blue or purple. Of the decorative elements, this style of interior does not accept anything traditional. Graffiti, road signs and all kinds of signs, advertising posters – these are the accessories that can be placed indoors. But if this is too original for you, you can use paintings in various frames or sculptural works. Only it is customary not to hang pictures, but only to put them on the wall. Curtains or blinds are also not provided for in the loft style, as they block the natural penetration of light into the room.
LOFT IN FURNITURE
The design project of a loft-style apartment provides for the presence of unique furniture. Huge, almost like sofas, armchairs, and even larger sofas of unconventional proportions are welcome. Chairs upholstered in black leather are suitable for the kitchen. For the living room space – double-sided shelving, which can simultaneously play the role of partitions. In the bedroom, you can install a low wooden bed. With a rather limited amount of loft-style furniture, only the latest household appliances are used. Huge plasma TVs, impeccable gas stoves, silent washing machines – all this accompanies the loft-style interior, which is often chosen by creative and bohemian people. Loft is interior design, which always becomes a unique and striking experiment. It is difficult to create comfort in it in the usual sense of the word. But it is in such a space that you can find all the opportunities for self-expression, as well as a lot of air and light.
